About MERGING WORLDS
MERGING WORLDS is a solo exhibition in Copenhagen by graffiti artist BecomeOne. The exhibition brings together the raw, spontaneous visual language of graffiti with natural subjects, figurative elements and atmospheric landscapes.
The works move between the urban and the organic, control and spontaneity, and the human-made and the natural. Created on canvas using spray paint, acrylic paint, airbrush and brushes, they draw on more than 25 years of experience with graffiti art.
Graffiti Artist BecomeOne
Artistic Approach
I began painting graffiti in Copenhagen in 1998 and have worked professionally as a full-time artist since 2012. As a child, I spent much of my time drawing comic-book characters and filling sheets of paper with sketches of superheroes, inspired in part by the Marvel universe. This early fascination with drawing eventually led me to graffiti and remains a fundamental part of everything I create.
Over approximately the past decade, I have developed this collection of works on canvas. Here, I combine the energy, colour and expression of graffiti art with figurative subjects created using acrylic paint, brushes and airbrush.
The collection ranges from distinctly urban works featuring tags, graffiti lettering, cityscapes and skylines to natural subjects featuring animals and atmospheric landscapes. In some works, these two visual worlds remain separate, while in others they meet and merge. Some paintings convey tranquillity and stillness, while others are driven by intense colours, movement and explosive energy.
Artworks Shaped by Time and Place
Each painting carries traces of the time and place in which it was created. The elephant painting on the sunlit beach emerged during a stay in Tenerife, while ATMOSPHERE was painted during the dark Copenhagen winter, inspired by mountains I had recently experienced while travelling through Czechia.
The more urban works draw directly on my personal graffiti style, which I have developed over more than 25 years with a focus on letterforms, tags, colour combinations and dynamic compositions. This aspect of my work has also been shaped by my travels to New York—the mecca of graffiti art—where I have painted in The Bronx alongside some of the greatest legends of graffiti culture.
Created during different periods of my life, the works form a visual narrative of changing surroundings, experiences and impressions. They reflect my continuing work to unite the freedom and energy of graffiti art with my fascination with the grandeur of nature.
Professional Background
Alongside my personal artistic practice, I have worked as a full-time artist since 2012, creating commissioned murals and teaching graffiti. Over the years, I have completed artistic projects for clients including Carlsberg, Novo Nordisk, Siemens and Nykredit, as well as leading graffiti workshops and team-building events for companies such as LEGO and Bestseller.
I hope you will come by and experience the artworks. Everyone is welcome!
